Home Sweet Fullerton #2: An Ode to Downtown Fully

I live, work and play in Fullerton. I've attended both Fullerton College and Cal State Fullerton, where I earned my bachelors degree. I love taking walks downtown with my boyfriend and grabbing a pint or two at our favorite pub. Most of all I love the people and the vibe. Harbor Boulevard is scattered with vintage shops, restaurants and bars. It's always a good day for a bike ride, zig zagging between brick buildings, running into friends and neighbors. When it's warm and in season, on a Thursday night I stop by the Farmer's Market on Wilshire. The street is blocked off and filled with the scent of grilled onions, kettle korn and fresh herbs. Dogs and little babies scurry around excitedly looking all there is to see. All these things make Fullerton Home Sweet Fullerton. As a tribute to my town, I created a series of Fullerton Head Gear that is available at The Head Shop. Enjoy! See you around.

A Great Day for Up

A day among artists and art lovers was time
well spent for The Head Shop.
Highlights of our day sketched out below:

One of my favorite parts of the day
was meeting cool people and talking with them about what they do.
Here are some of their websites:

Home Sweet Fullerton #1: Hibbleton

This week is the debut of Home Sweet Fullerton -- a monthly blog post of my favorite people,  places and things in Fullerton.

Hibbleton Art Gallery strays away from the norm by opening its doors for intimate showings of art in all platforms. Just recently I attended a poetry reading, Open Heart Perjury, hosted my dear friend: poet Michael Roberts of thehopemeat.com  He so kindly wore The Head Shop's Oh Yoko Tee while reciting poetry and introducing artists. A very much appreciated favor in return for me purchasing a copy of his book,  No More Poems About The Moon (available @ WriteBloody.com). Very kind indeed, since I was short $6. Thanks Michael!  In the end it was a good swap between two starving artists.

Among the talent, was a rough and ready little punk rawk band, The Dirty Bills. The Bills also call Fullerton their hometown. For all these reasons I make it a point to stop by and check out the newest exhibition at Hibbleton--always something fresh and inspiring. When Hibbleton isn't hosting an event, it's open Thursday through Sunday, 1p-6p. Books, clothing and art are for sale.

Current exhibition: RUGS! RUGS! RUGS! Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo presents a selection of 12 rugs with imagery from his 'Postcard Diaries' image bank

Join us @ Hibbleton Holiday Handmade Sale (organized by MelissaLoschy of Handmade Brigade of OC) on Saturday, December 19th, 4p-8p. The Head Shop is super excited to have been invited to an event in our town! See you there.

Our Day with The Handmade Brigade
November 1st was a sunny and bloody hot day. As newbies to the crafting fair scene, we didn't bring an umbrella. Thanks to a sweetie named Bev, we were able to keep cool by using a table cloth as a tarp over our booth. Thank goodness for her. Throughout the day we met lots and lots of cool people, including the gals from Handmade Brigade. Thank you Jackie, Melissa, Nina and Brook (and Gus) for having us at your event, we were glad to have this one
be our first!

We arrived early, so to kill time we hung out in the parking lot.

9:30 a.m. It's me! setting up and adding last minute
touches to the booth.

Our booth signage, DIY style: cardboard, homemade stencil
and spray paint.

One of our favorite customers modeling The Head Shop's newest addition to the Design Series 2 collection (Vincent van Gogh apron, available soon).

The Lemonhead contest was a success, the family above carefully inspects the jar and takes a guess.

Thanks for coming by, it was so nice to see you! Come visit us at CoLab's Art & Craft Market on Sunday, December 13th from 1-8p. For more info visit Gallery Nucleus

29!

Twenty Nine Palms Highway, a long road lined with mom and pop spots, art galleries, book stores, sale upon yard sale, is thee place to find one-of-a-kind gems. Mt. Fuji General Store, owned by artist Chantale Doyle was among my favorite places to visit. The quaint shop sells everything from salt shakers to comic books. Mt. Fuji houses the work of well knowns such as John Porcellino, while also welcoming locals to showcase their talent. My find: a heather gray tunic, screenprinted with hot pink organic twisting clouds, accented with black and white striped pockets. Surrounding Mt. Fuji you can find a sweet place to grab a cup of coffee at TeaCakes Bakery or choose from several vintage thrift shops to find that special something you've been looking for. I highly recommend taking the drive to desert and enjoying the scenery, art and culture that a small town has to offer.
